GREENWOOD BAY COLLEGE DERBY WEEKEND –

31 MAY and 1 JUNE

Greenwood Scoccer

This derby weekend was a great success. The scheduled netball and soccer matches took place on the Friday afternoon in cool but pleasant weather. Our netball girls did their best on the netball court, but the Greenwood teams proved to be too strong. Both the under 11 and the under 13 girls lost their matches. On the soccer field, our teams fared better. The under 11 team won their match 1-0 and the under 13 team drew their game 2-2. Both games were very exciting to watch. After the sport on the Friday there was a burger and bingo evening at the St Francis Bay Golf Club. This event was well supported and lots of fun.

On the Saturday morning there were four hockey matches – under 11 boys and girls and under 13 boys and girls. Our teams competed tenaciously but were outplayed by the Greenwood teams. Nonetheless, it was a wonderful day of sport with all games played in the right spirit. Our visitors were most complimentary of our school and of the hospitality which they had enjoyed. So many people contributed to the success of the weekend. There were those who contributed a plate of eats for the teas; others helped with serving; there was the grade 7 tuckshop which had to be manned; oranges had to be cut up and served to the players; cups and dishes needed to be washed – so much needs to be done on an occasion like this. Thank you to everyone who contributed, worked hard and supported the school over these two days.

Kouga Ford was also present on the Saturday morning doing a ‘Drive 4 your school’ event. Five Ford vehicles were available for test drives and for every registered test drive taken, the school will receive R100 from Ford. The final tally of test drives taken was 54. Thanks to Warren Manser for arranging this.
