Encouraging our learners to be mindful and caring towards their local community is key to our school ethos. We undertake various initiatives throughout the year, including “Thoughtful Thursday” and the Ukupha Santa Surprise project. In 2016 many of our pupils also got involved with preparing food and feeding the firefighters during the January fires.
St Francis College collected over 80 gift boxes for Ukupha Santa Surprise project, where gifts and school goods were wrapped and handed to the children of Talhado Children’s Haven in Sea Vista.
Our first “Thoughtful Thursday” was started in the third term of 2016. Organized by the Parents Association all learners were requested to bring a vegetable or two every Thursday for our local soup kitchen. This kitchen feeds over 150 people in our local township, Sea Vista, ranging from young children to the elderly. We managed to deliver over 3 crates delivered every Thursday, stocking the soup kitchen for their weekend meals!
With the success of our Thoughtful Thursday community outreach programme in 2016, there are now bigger plans going into the new year where we will broaden the outreach and will not only focus on our local community but further afield in the Kouga area.
