NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2025
|
|
|
| |
If the school year were a rugby match, we’d be in that thrilling final stretch—where the Springboks dig deep, rally together, and drive home those last few tries. Go Bokke! Our pupils are showing that same determination and heart. From choir concerts and sports fixtures to the ever-popular exams (yes, even those!), they’re stepping up and giving it their all. Thankfully, we’ve still got camps, tours, and festive celebrations to keep the energy high and spirits lifted. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible staff and supporters—you’ve gone the extra mile, cheered and inspired, and helped our pupils shine. Your encouragement truly makes all the difference. So let’s lace up, lock in, and charge forward. With teamwork, tenacity, and touch of Springbok magic, we’re bringing home our very own Champions Cup for 2025! Mrs. Caroline Anderson “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.” – Phil Jackson

Sport (Mr van Tonder)
Term 3 started off with interhouse cross country on Friday the 5th of September. It was great to see the kids running around the farm again. Well done to all that participated. Final points were very close with Musselcracker 49 Red Roman 52 Yellowtail 52
The Kouga soccer tournament unfortunately had to be canceled due to high winds and rain. We are attempting to play these matches during the term. The U11 and U13 boys played a match at SFC against Kings College. It was a close game with U11 drawing 0-0 and U13 losing 2-0. Well done to the players. They are continuing to develop their experience and teamwork on the field.
The Greenwood tour is currently being arranged for the 24-25th October and includes soccer, netball, chess, swimming, cricket and tennis. The kids are looking forward to the trip to Plettenberg Bay.

Foundation Phase
Term 3 arrived and although we were ready to celebrate Spring, the weather was not. However, we bravely planted flowers and had a Spring dress up day to celebrate. We began the term with our inter-house cross-country which was postponed from last term. We were able to use our cross-country track around the dam and all the children participated with enthusiasm. We dressed up in clothes which we felt reflected our South African Heritage to celebrate Heritage Day and ate delicious boerewors rolls.

Grade 1
This term we have focused on growth, especially plants. We planted a bean in a bag and made seed heads, which brought great excitement when they eventually sprouted with green hair. We enjoyed a fun morning on the Wildside in Cape St Francis with Harry Bateman. He shared his knowledge with the children, and they learnt more about the rocky shores environment. He took them on a short walk to the beach and Osprey shipwreck site.

Grade 2
The Grade 2’s discussed how plants grow. We planted flowers in our plant boxes and have been watching their progress with interest. We discussed Heritage Day and the importance of remembering our family traditions. The class participated in the class assembly where we spoke about the importance of History. We have made good progress in our Afrikaans reading and have begun to learn our times tables.

Grade 3
The Grade 3’s started off the term learning about our South African heritage and learnt a bit about the different cultures and traditions that are celebrated in our country. We then looked at how people lived in the past in South Africa. The children had so much fun bringing olden day items to school and talking about them in a show and tell. They even got to see and hear how an old record player works, which brought much excitement. We completed the theme by doing orals on what life was like at school for an older family member. In and amongst all of this, we celebrated Spring by having a Spring Day. This was great fun, and the children enjoyed a day of Spring-themed art, Spring themed biscuit decorating and a Spring picnic in the sunshine.

Damon Stantcheva and Maya Kotzé qualified to play in the Eastern Cape Closed Chess Championship on the 7th September. This tournament was a stepping stone to being selected for the Eastern Cape Team. Congratulations to Maya Kotzé for being selected to represent the Eastern Cape Team in the u10 girls. She will be representing Eastern Cape at the MIYCC 2025 in Nelson Mandela Bay from the 15th to 20th December. Damon will be participating as an individual in this event. Congratulations! We are very proud of both of them! The interschool Chess League is still underway and should be completed by the end of October. At school, the interhouse chess tournament is in progress. Matches for the coveted Junior and Senior Chess Championship Trophies are also being played at the moment. Well done to all the chess players for an excellent year of chess!

ECD (Teacher Dom)
What a blooming wonderful half term it’s been at St Francis College ECD! 🌸
From our Mini Olympics adventures — with tiny champions running, jumping, and giggling their way to gold — to learning all about Spring and watching the world come back to life, our little learners have been busy ants indeed! 🐜
We’ve loved exploring the outdoors on sunny days and getting cosy indoors when the wind decided to join the fun. 🍃✨
And speaking of windy days... What did one leaf say to another? “I’m falling for you!” 🍂😂
We also welcomed some new faces and families, which has been absolutely lovely — our ECD family just keeps growing! 💕
We can’t wait for the next part of the term, filled with even more laughter, learning, and magical adventures. 🌈
Have a wonderful mini break, everyone! Love, St Francis College ECD 💖

Music & Drama News (Mrs. Natasha Brown)
On Thursday, 2 October, our young performers took the stage for a truly wonderful night of music, colour and dance. Our annual choir concert, Broadway Wonderland, transported the audience into a world where Broadway sparkle met the whimsy of Wonderland. The stage came alive with energy, laughter and song. Dressed in vibrant costumes and full of confidence, our talented students sang their way through Boadway numbers, including “We’re all made of stars, It’s a Hard knock life, In summer”, just to name a few The highlight of the evening was seeing every face shine with pride and joy. From our youngest singers, bravely taking the stage for the first time to our older students leading with flair and confidence. A huge thank you goes to the Cape St Francis Resort, teachers and backstage helpers who made this show possible. We’re looking forward to the rest of the term where we will be learning Christmas songs for our upcoming Christmas market evening. Kindest regards Natasha Brown
