Message from the Headmaster

  SFB logo square

Valentine’s Day has arrived which means we are already half way through February and well into the activities of the term. There is a Valentine’s raffle on the go with tickets being sold up until the end of the month. The prize-winners will be drawn and announced at the morning market on 29 February which is during the half term break.

March is a very busy month with several events scheduled. On the weekend after half term, the under 13 cricket team and the swimmers will be travelling to Plett to compete against Greenwood Bay College. The Interhouse Gala and the Splash-In Gala follow with the Wacky Woods Camp for the grades 4,5,6 and 7’s sandwiched between those two galas. The golf Day is scheduled to take place on 13 March.

My point is that this summer term will quickly give way to cooler months and then the start of winter sports. A suggestion was made at a board meeting late last year, that our soccer, hockey, netball and cricket teams should be kitted out in smart, branded clothing which would set the children apart and give them a real sense of pride in their school and their team. The idea was that sponsors could come forward for the purchase of this kit and could have their company branding displayed on the kit. One set of kit could be purchased for the team. The kit would be kept by the school to be worn for matches only. Quotes have been sources for such sports kit and the prices are in the vicinity of R2500 to kit out a team. If any parent is interested in supporting this idea, or knows someone else who might be interested, they are invited to let the office know. We could then get the ball rolling in this regard. A suggested netball dress is shown below. Imagine how smart our girls would look in this kit!

Nursery School News (Mrs. Lonsdale)

We are marching through the first term of 2020 and all the children are happily in the routine of their mornings at the Nursery School.

Teacher Cath and myself have finished doing up the fantasy playroom in the butterfly class, (also known as the fairy room by the children). It has been a wonderful success and a much loved area for the children to express themselves in.

Dates to diarise

Outing to The Cove on Wednesday 26th February.

[Weather permitting]

Shapes and Colours outing at the Links on Tuesday 7th April.

Letters regarding these outings will be sent out. Please make sure you return the indemnity forms, as we have to have these with us at the outing.

Reminders

Please could all the children have a change of clothes in their school bag each day. This is so important if they have an accident, get wet or dirty.  Children prefer to have their own clothes to change into.

We would like to thank everyone for all the donations of the cat and dog food for Thoughtful Thursday. I know this is much appreciated by the St Francis Animal Rescue and helps so many hungry dogs and cats.

Thank you for you continued support

Hugs from Teacher Jane and Teacher Cath
