MESSAGE FROM THE HEADMASTER
What a busy term we have had! After half-term the focus shifted from the choir competition to the Senior Primary concert. On the sports field, the teams started preparing for the derby day encounter against Hermitage House which took place on 12 July. There was some rain on the day that Hermitage House visited and that was the start of a very wet period in St Francis Bay. For the last two weeks of the term our field has been waterlogged and it has been impossible to have any sport. Fortunately, the concert took priority over sports activities on the field and all grade three to seven pupils were fully involved with preparing for the concert. The concert, entitled ‘Dream a Little Dream’, was staged before a packed house at The Links on Tuesday 30 July. It was so exciting for the children to be involved with this and what a great pleasure it was to see all the hard work of everyone concerned being justly rewarded with a magnificent performance. The holiday month of August now lies before us. Time to put the feet up for a while, or to take that long awaited road trip or family holiday. Sadly, some families will be leaving our shores during August for new ventures overseas. We wish the Tovells and the Nivens everything of the best. I wish you all a very pleasant holiday and I look forward to seeing everyone safely back at the beginning of September.

Grade Two - Opposites Day
The Grade 2s had a terrible day on Friday to celebrate opposites. Pyjamas, pancakes and ice cream, a chocolate game and marking the teachers atrocious spelling were just some of the highlights. It's a day that the teacher dreads as all the rules go out the window!

HERMITAGE HOUSE DERBY – 12 JULY 2019
St Francis College hosted Hermitage House in a derby day on 12 July. Early morning rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of the children from both schools as they looked foward to competing against each other in soccer, hockey, netball and chess. Hermitage House does not play soccer but they were happy to take on the College in two eleven-a-side games. St Francis College played good, structured soccer and won both games convincingly. Hermitage House faired much better on the netball field, winning all of the three matches. The College girls played very well against strong opposition. The Hockey matches were hotly contested with one game being drawn 1-1 and the other games being won by narrow margins by St Francis College. The chess games were tightly contested with St Francis College getting the upper hand. The St Francis College grade 7 class made the most of the influx of visitors to the school by holding their entrepreneurs day at the same time. This added a festive element to the occasion with lots of tasty goodies being for sale from the various stalls. All in all it was a fantastic day of sport, fun and friendship.

Inter-House Cross Country
There was great excitement as all the children gathered, in their house colours, on the grass above the farm dam. Coach (Mr Fortuin) had spent a lot of time marking out the courses for the different age groups. The Spar flags, flapping in the breeze at key points on the routes, gave an indication of the challenging runs to be completed. The grade 0 girls were first up, followed by the grade 0 boys. These little ones completed the same distance as the grade 1's which was quite a challenge for them. Some of these boys and girls showed that they have great long distance running abilities. The under 7 age group event was followed by events for under 9, under 11 and the open age group. Each age group faced a slightly longer distance with the open age group event being 2,2 kilometres. Some excellent, courageous running was displayed by the children. The final House positions were Musselcracker 78 Yellowtail 71 Red Roman 66 Congratulations to Musselcracker on winning the Inter-house cross-country!
Age group winners were: U7(g) Hayley Holmes U7 (b) Murray John Boonzaier U9(g) Hinetea Chretien U9(b) Ethan Darke U11(g) Katie Joubert U11(b) Nicholas Niven Open(g) Cadence Marais Open(b) Sine Ndabambi

100 Club
The second meeting of the 100 Club of St Francis College, once again held at the St Francis Bay Golf Club, was a great success. The evening kicked off with headmaster Warwick Osmond giving a brief report on the goings on at the College. He sketched a picture of a busy term which is drawing to a close. In the intervening month since the first get-together, the number off members went past the fifty mark. This meant that the Early Bird draw could be done. The lucky Early Bird winner of R1000 was Joha Moolman. The attendance prize winner was Geanne Darke and the 100 Club winner was Mrs Elma Brooker. The opportunity to turn a card in the Joker Draw was won by Cath Hempel, but she did not find the Joker. The Joker Draw jackpot now stands at R1000 and rolls over to the next draw. This meeting of the 100 Club was another great success. The snacks provided by Janie in the kitchen were top-notch. A super occasion was enjoyed by all. Convener, Barry Phillips, announced that the next meeting of the 100 Club will take place at the St Francis Golf Club at on the 29th of August. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Mandela Day
Our Mandela day project focused on collecting winter clothing - anything which will help a less fortunate person to keep warm during the cold winter days and nights that we are having. Blankets were also included. SFB United Church came to the school and talked to the children at assembly and collected the donated items for distribution. Our SFB children spent time sorting and packing the items neatly into boxes. This made up the '67' minutes for a worthy cause.

The Senior Concert - Dream a Little Dream
This year it was the seniors turn to don their costumes and take to the stage for a fun night of entertainment. Our grade 7 girls – Abigail Davids, Emily Cownie, Sivenathi Stuurman and Cadence Marais – transported the audience through their dreams, captivating everyone with their antics. We met up with Pharoah, Cleopatra and their Egyptian guards, pirates aboard the Bounty and their clumsy captain and smelly, hairy arm-pitted cavemen and women. The last stop on this dream tour was in the future – at the 2022 Soccer World Cup where we saw South Africa score the winning goal. The concert was held at The Links on a specially constructed stage. It was the perfect venue for a spectacular night. The children performed magnificently. The costumes and make-up were so professionally done and so much hard work had been put into the choreography and stage direction. It was really a top notch performance of which everyone involved can feel justly proud. Thank you to Shona Marais and all other staff members involved for their hard work with the concert.

SILENT AUCTION
The main event of the PA this term was a silent auction. The call went out for items which could be put up for auction. The response was amazing. In the end there were thirty-three items available. Di Harcus did a fantastic job of presenting a picture and a description of each lot. These were then displayed on a notice board which was set up in front of the school office every morning. It was then a matter of encouraging people to put in their bids. On the evening of the school concert at The Links the bidding wars started in earnest. There was a strict cut-off time, being the start of the concert, after which no further bids were accepted. After the concert the winning bidders were announced. The total raised by the auction was just over R24000.00. Well done to everyone concerned and a big thank you to all who donated items and also to those who purchased the items. The silent auction was a great idea and certainly something which could be done again next year.
