THE COLLEGE WILL BE PEACEFUL FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS - ENJOY THE BREAK

END OF TERM NEWSLETTER.

A busy first term is drawing to a close. I know that everyone at St Francis College is looking forward to the holiday. It has been a long, busy and very successful term.

I want to thank everyone – parents, teachers and pupils – for all the positive energy which has been poured into the College during these past months. Everyone has really done their best to take the school forward. The many fantastic activities which have taken place during the term are testament to the hard work and positivity which has characterised the school this year.

We look forward to term two which will be equally busy and equally rewarding I am sure. I wish all the children and families of St Francis College a very pleasant and relaxing holiday.

Please note that school starts on Tuesday, 7 May.  Wednesday 8 May is the Election Day and there will not be school on that day.

REPORT BACK ON A FEW ACTIVITIES...

THE SPLASH-IN GALA

Splash

This gala was a wonderful opportunity for the little ones to show how much they have progressed in the swimming pool. The creative events, such as ‘noodle bugs’, ‘reverse speedboat’ and ‘cups on head’ allowed the children to compete in a fun way. Well done to all the organizers for putting together such an entertaining gala. I am sure all the moms and dads, grannies and grandpas enjoyed the afternoon immensely.

GARDEN DAY

The garden received a make-over recently. A garden day was held on Saturday 23 March attended by teachers, parents and pupils. Much enjoyment was had establishing new seed beds and carting in many loads of compost which was donated by Reliance Composting Company. The gardening group has a number of things planned to develop the garden. We look forward to news of these developments. Thank you to Andrew Morris who came and taught the children about establishing a worm farm.

  Warwick Wetsuit

BILLABONG SPONSORED WETSUIT FOR HEADMASTER

The last week of term started on an exciting note when Craig Jarvis presented Warwick Osmond with an Xcel wetsuit. The wetsuit was very generously supplied by Chad D’arcy, marketing manager of Billabong in Jeffrey’s Bay. The Xcel wetsuit is a top of the range garment, very different to any type of wetsuit Warwick has ever worn before. Craig gave Warwick the necessary instructions for putting on the wetsuit – it is not a simple process! We will see how that goes. Once Warwick has mastered putting on the wetsuit, he will be venturing into the water. Watch this space for updates ….  Thank you to Craig and to Billabong for this amazing gift.

TALENT SHOW (MRS NATASHA BROWN)

Concert Pics 1

An amazing talent show was enjoyed by young and old on 5 April 2019.  Our greatest showman, Dylan Hodder opened the talent show with a bang!  The grade 0 and 00s each had their moment to shine with a beautiful fashion parade and doing a dance to the jungle boogie respectively.  We had various categories for instance singing, dancing, sports, drama, art and photography to name a few.  For the last 2 years, lego has been displayed and a surprise this year was the creative filming of a zombie movie.  All the children prepared their own acts and had to audition before they were nominated to partake in the final show.  The hall was packed with an eager audience supporting their children and friends.  I am amazed with all the wonderful talent we have at school. I would like to thank all the parents for their support.  A huge thank you to our wonderful sponsors who provided lovely prizes for the children.  Well done to all the children!  I’m looking forward to next years talent show.

KYKNET PRODUCTION

We have some exciting news to share.  The St Francis College Choir will be participating in a National Choir Festival which will be showcased on Kyknet, DSTV.  The program is called “Sing in Harmonie”.  This is a wonderful opportunity to market our school to a platform of over 1 million viewers. Needless to say, the children are very excited about this wonderful opportunity to be on television.

The Senior choir (grade 3 - 7) will sing 2 songs at the choir competition.  This will take place in Jeffreys Bay (Venue to be confirmed) on 13 June 2019 at 18:00.  Various schools will perform and be judged.  Please note that tickets are available at R100 per person.  Tickets need to be reserved and paid for by 30 April 2019, which unfortunately falls during our school holidays.  There will be no tickets for sale at the door and only a maximum of 400 tickets are available.   Please pop into the office to reserve and pay for your tickets. Mrs Harcus will still be in office for a few days per week during the holiday period. She can be contacted on her cell 0823761356 to arrange a time. Tickets can be purchased until the 12th at the office.

On 6 June 2019, a Kyknet production team will visit St Francis College to interview various pupils, filming the facilities at school etc.  We will receive more information as to when our school will be show-cased on DSTV.  More information will be given  as and when it is received. We look forward to this exciting venture.

If you have any queries, you can contact Natasha Brown on 083 305 3081.

SPORTS REPORT

Boys Hockey

HOCKEY AND SECOND TERM SPORT

Hockey practices have already started. It has been reported to me that some of the children have hockey sticks which are either too small for them, or too big. A hockey stick should come up to the child’s belly button. If your child has out-grown their hockey stick, please put a price on it, with your name, and bring it to the school. Parents who are wanting to buy a hockey stick could then perhaps buy your second-hand stick.

Sport will start on the first day of next term: please see the programme in this newsletter.  Please ensure all kit is purchased during the holidays. All children must have a gum guard for hockey.

NURSERY SCHOOL NEWS (MRS LONSDALE)

Another term, and what a term it has been!

All the children have settled well into the Nursery School, and it is wonderful to see such happy children arrive in the mornings.

We will be having an Easter egg hunt on Monday the 7th of April for all the children.

I would like to thank Amanda Saunders for the wonderful donation of toys to the school. If anybody is clearing out their toy boxes, please remember us and also any toys for the Wellness Day which we will be having on the 25th of May.  There will be a letter going out explaining what this day is all about next term.

We will be well into winter at the start of next term, so please remember to dress your child accordingly with spare clothes in their bag.

From all the staff at the Nursery School, we wish you a wonderful holiday and may you spend plenty of quality time with your beautiful little ones.

Keep safe, sending lots of hugs.

Teacher Jane

School Security

safety

Please note the following

If a child is being fetched during the school day, due to being ill or having to leave school for some other reason, the office must be informed and the child must wait at the office until fetched. Children may not wait outside or walk up to the gate to wait for the lift.

Any visitor to the school, during school hours, must announce their visit at the office. No visitor should walk to classes or interrupt teachers in their classes when the school is in session or during break times. If a parent is bringing something for a child or needs to see their child, they should work through the front office.
