It’s been a great start to the term! In line with Level 2 requirements, we are continuing with the daily sanitizing and the use of face masks & shields by all on our campus. Level 1 will commence on 21 September but all procedures will stay the same. Our children started the term with the usual enthusiasm, and we certainly have packed it all in! Last Tuesday saw the start of some outdoor activities. The children enjoyed nature hikes, nature treasure hunts & bicycle rides around the farm. What a perfect place to enjoy some Fresh Farm Air! As the term continues, we are looking forward to adding to these activities with paddling & fishing. Last Friday, we celebrated World Literacy Day, and the children were invited to dress up as their favourite story book characters. They loved guessing who wore what!

Heritage Day - 24 September 2020
Thursday 24 September is Heritage Day and there will be no school. However, The Kouga Enviro-Trust are having a beach Clean Up Day on that day and we would very much like the children of St Francis College to participate in this. This could be a nice activity for the whole family. Please see the event poster below.

News from Mrs. Kopke (Grade 2)
| |
 |
The Grade 2’s have been speaking about birds. They made their own nests and wrote stories about the bird that lives in their nest.
Brin Jarvis My bird is a Winnie bird. It is a yellow bird with rainbow feathers and an orange beak. It is medium sized but the feet are pretty big. It has a yellow head, big claws and it hums. The nest is found on the ground. It eats worms, leaves and insects. It likes to be awake at night.
Murray-John Boonzaier My bird is a tiger bird. The nest is found at the top of a fir tree. It eats insects. It comes out at sunrise. It has green eyes, an orange beak and medium sized wings. It is big and has small legs and very sharp claws. The most interesting thing is that it gives birth to live chicks.
Damon Stantcheva My bird is a stinging bird. It has a pointy head and a long body. Its tail is fluffy and it has sharp claws. It eats meat and it comes out at night. The most interesting thing is that it can break a rock with it’s really strong beak.
Addison Shaw My bird is a special kind of bird. It’s called the sunset bird. The sunset bird has a beautiful smile and its eyes are a beautiful colour. The tail is very small-as small as my pinky. The bird is found in a tiny hole. My bird comes out at night and eats at night. The most interesting thing is the ways it hunts. It flies up and flies round and round to make the other birds dizzy then flies down to catch them.
Hayley Holmes My bird is called a rainbow weaver. It is cute and small. Its body is long and thin. The sound it makes is cheep cheeeeep. Its nest is found near the end of a rainbow. It sleeps at night and comes out during the day. The most interesting thing is that it doesn’t get wet in the rain.

100 Club News
| |
 |
There have been two meetings of the 100 Club since the commencement of the club’s second year. The first gathering took place at Full Stop Café on 30 July. That was a wonderful evening of fun, good food and friendship. The winners that night were Maria Holmes for the attendance draw and Jenna van der Westhuizen for the main draw. The joker draw was drawn by Jenine Pollard, but unsuccessfully so the pot grew to over R4000! The second get-together took place at Clive’s Chokka Block on 27 August. Again, a wonderful evening was enjoyed by the 100 Club members – the views over the port are spectacular and the special menu put together by Clive was superb. Prize winners on this occasion were Danni Shaw for winning the attendance prize of R500. Jenine Pollard won the R1000 main prize and Jason Anderson who unsuccessfully played the joker draw. The Joker pot is now sitting at R4875 and keeps growing. The next meeting of the 100 Club will take place at Gavin’s Sushi Bar on Tuesday 22 September. This get-together will be on the Tuesday of that week because the Thursday is a public holiday. We look forward to welcoming members and prospective members to another uplifting meeting of the 100 Club.
Your support of St Francis College through the vehicle of the 100 Club is greatly appreciated. With the support of the community, this great little school can only go from strength to strength. We look forward to seeing you at our next 100 Club get-together.
If you are not already a member and would like to join and find out more, please contact Lucy in the office at info@stfranciscollege.co.za
